Although Chicago is only a few hours away, I’ve only been there twice before. This time, we had the opportunity to go to Navy Pier. There weren’t very many people there, but it was nice to just leisurely stroll along the pier and enjoy the view and attractions without all the lights and craziness. We also went shopping along the Magnificent Mile and my only purchase was a fantastic pair of zebra heels.
We stayed at the Inn of Chicago (and got a really great deal). It was the perfect location – five blocks from Navy Pier and 1/2 block from the Mile. We walked everywhere we needed to go, which was probably a good thing considering the food we ate. There was a 24-hour Dunkin Donuts/Baskin Robbins across the street from our hotel. Chad, who works nights and therefore can’t sleep at night, was practically driven insane by the temptation to run over there at 2 a.m.
Our surprising food/drink find of the trip was located adjacent to our hotel’s lobby – a Lavazza coffee shop. It puts Starbucks to shame. I wish we had them here in Indy. We went there for an after-dinner coffee Sunday night and got a Choco-tella espresso. It’s a combination of espresso and Nutella, with whipped cream and crushed hazelnuts on top. I think I was in heaven.
The vacation was great, we spent some quality time together, got away from our puppy-child Jude, and I can’t really speak for my night owl hubby, but I came back refreshed and energized.
